General Hamel’s extensive military career included his two most recent assignments as commander, Space and Missile Systems Center, Air Force Space Command, Los Angeles Air Force Base, Calif., and commander of the 14th Air Force "Flying Tigers," He has served in senior staff positions at Headquarters United States Air Force and Air Force Space Command and was the vice president's military adviser on defense, nonproliferation, and space policy.  Hamel earned a Bachelor of Science degree in aeronautical engineering from the United States Air Force Academy and a Master of Business Administration degree from California State University.
