George C. Nield, Ph.D.

Nield is the associate administrator for commercial space transportation at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). He has more than 30 years of aerospace experience with the U.S. Air Force, at NASA and in private industry. Previously, he was manager of the Flight Integration Office for the Space Shuttle Program at NASA Johnson Space Center, and later worked on both the Shuttle/Mir Program and the International Space Station Program. Nield earned a bachelor’s degree from the U.S. Air Force Academy, a Master of Science degree and a doctorate in aeronautics and astronautics from Stanford University and a Master of Business Administration degree from The George Washington University.
